A Weight Watchers group has helped raised hundreds of pounds for charity.

Mary Gurney and her members took part in the Lantern Walk organised by St Oswald’s Hospice, at the Rising Sun Country Park in Benton.

And they raised more than £400 for the hospice.

Mary said doing the walk as a group was about teamwork and improving fitness.

She said: “This is a fantastic cause which helps people in so many ways, we are proud to support local charities as we know that every penny counts.”

Mary runs meetings at Trinity Methodist Church, Wallsend, on Wednesday at 8.30am and 10am; St Andrews United Reformed Church, Monkseaton, on Thursday at 5.30pm; Blyth Central Methodist Church on Wednesday at 6.15pm and Thursday at 8.30am and 9.45am.
