The annual Whitley Bay Sandcastle Competition is taking place on Whitley Bay beach this Sunday.

Returning for its 11th year, the event is being organised by Whitley Bay Chamber of Trade with support from North Tyneside Council.

Families and participants should gather on the beach outside the Rendezvous Cafe, on the Northern Promenade.

The competition will start at 10am, with last entries at 12.30pm before judging takes place at 1pm.

Entry is free and there will be prizes on offer for the best designs for sandcastles and sandsculptures.

Participants are asked to bring their own bucket and spades.

As well as the sandcastles, there will be shuggy boats, candy floss stall, face painter and more.

Di Meo’s are giving away free ice cream to any one who fills their bucket with rubbish, after building their sandcastle. Everyone who does will receive a voucher to claim their ice creams.
