Whitley Bay Operatic Society to be on song for a 9 to 5 show
Fans of Dolly Parton are in for a treat with the latest show at Playhouse Whitley Bay.
Whitley Bay Operatic Society (WBOS) will be performing 9 to 5 at the venue from April 18 to 21. The musical is based on the 1980 movie of the same name, featuring music and lyrics by Dolly Parton.
It centres on the downtrodden working lives of three women – Violet, Judy, and Doralee. They all work at Consolidated Industries, which is presided over by the sexist, lecherous, and pompous, Franklin Hart.
After Judy has an awful first day, Hart passes Violet over for another promotion, and Doralee finds out that Hart has been telling everyone they are having an affair, the three women unite in their hatred of Hart.
For the 9 to 5 show, WBOS is working with the Harbour Charity, which supports families and individuals who are the victims of abuse either from a partner, former partner or other family member.
The charity started in the North East in 1974 when a group of women came together to set up a refuge to meet the needs of women and children who were fleeing violence and abuse. They work from a deep conviction that everyone has the right to live free from violence and abuse.
