A Whitley Bay poet is putting on an event after securing funding from the Arts Council.

Julie Egdell’s first collection of poems, Alice in Wonderland – about her time living in Russia, was published last year by Smokestack Books.

She won an Arts Council Grant to develop a multimedia spoken word show of the collection, involving live music and film, which saw her take the performance across the North East and Finland.

And the final show will take place at the Jam Jar Cinema, Whitley Bay, on Sunday, from 7pm.

It will also feature local poets Harry Gallagher, Rowan McCabe and Andy Willoughby. Tickets are £5.

Julie said: “The tour was a fantastic experience and a lot of fun. I’m really looking forward to bringing the final show to my home town.”
