Age UK North Tyneside has organised a will writing event from Monday, February 8, to Friday, February 12.

The charity is teaming up with local solicitors who provide one-to-one consultants to customers at a reduced rate, with all proceeds donated to the charity.

The last three will writing events generated almost £7,000 for the charity which helped to fund some of the essential services Age UK North Tyneside delivers throughout the area.

Alma Caldwell, chief executive of Age UK North Tyneside, said: “Writing a will is one of those tasks that we all know we should do, yet many of us put it off and prefer not to think about it too much.

“Our quarterly will writing events have been very popular with customers who are assured that they are getting quality legal advice at a reduced cost – while helping to support our charity deliver services to older people throughout North Tyneside.”

Anyone interested in making an appointment or would like more information, should contact Age UK North Tyneside on (0191) 280 8484.

Nigel Miller, director at Kidd & Spoor Solicitors Limited, who supports the charity’s Will writing events, said: “There is a common misconception where people believe they have nothing of value to bequeath, but if you take time to think about everything that you own you may find it is more than you thought.

“Your executors are the people named in your Will who will carry out your wishes. It is a good idea to choose and name at least two people to do this job – in case one should be unable to act for you.

“You can choose friends, family members, your bank or a solicitor to act as your executors.

“Naming someone as an executor doesn’t stop them benefitting in your Will and in some circumstances Age UK North Tyneside can act as an executor.”

As well as Kidd & Spoor Solicitors, other supporters of the charity’s events include Stockdale & Reid, Brennans Solicitors, Hindle Campbell, Alderson Law, Juliette Adie Solicitors and Hadaway & Hadaway.

Alma added: “I’d like to thank all of the law firms who work in partnership to deliver this will writing event to customers. It has become a popular and trusted service for our customers, while helping to generate much needed funds for our charity.”
