Witness appeal after robbery at Wallsend shop

Police are appealing for witnesses following a robbery at a shop in North Tyneside.

It happened at 9.49pm on Sunday, at the NISA store on Tynemouth Road in Wallsend.

A man entered the store armed with a knife and threatened staff. He left with an undisclosed quantity of cash.

No one was injured during the robbery, but staff were shaken by the incident.

Shortly afterwards, a man was detained by two members of the public. Police were called and a 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery and is currently in custody.
