Woman found lying in the street after hit and run
A woman suffered serious facial injuries in a hit and run collision.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened in Churchill Street, Wallsend, at around 1.20am today (Friday).
A 35-year-old woman was struck by a car and was found injured on the side of the road.
The driver stopped and got out of his car and made a call before driving off towards Howdon.
Members of the public who heard the collision came and helped the woman and called an ambulance.
The car is described as small and green coloured, possibly a Ford Fiesta, the driver is described as white in his 20s with stubble.
He was wearing a grey hoody, red cap and black Adidas joggers.
The woman suffered serious facial injuries and lacerations to her body and was treated by paramedics in Churchill Street before being taken to Cramlington Hospital where she is receiving treatment.
Sergeant Kathryn Nicoll, of Motor Patrols, said: “We want to trace the driver of this car who drove off from the collision without helping the clearly injured woman.
“We’re appealing for the driver himself to come forward and anyone who may know who the driver is from the description we have to contact police.
“We’re also asking for anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have or heard anything to contact us.”
