Woman in hospital after hammer attack

A WOMAN has been hit with a hammer outside a North Tyneside school.

Police were called to the car park area outside Burradon Primary School, Burradon Road, in North Tyneside, at 12.07pm today (Thursday, July 7), following reports of a man with a hammer.

Officers attended and found a man armed with a hammer and a woman who was injured.

The injured woman aged 21 has been taken to hospital suffering head injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection with this incident.

Neighbourhood Inspector John Smith said: “Police are dealing with the incident which involved two people who knew each other.

No children were outside the school at this time.

“Pupils were still inside the building while the incident was on-going. No one else has been injured. Enquiries are continuing into this incident.”
