Woman’s phone stolen in the street

A WOMAN was left shocked after a man grabbed her mobile phone while she was making a call and ran off with it.

The woman was targeted by the thief while using her Blackberry Bold mobile phone as she walked along Marmion Terrace in Monkseaton, near the Metro station, this week.

After snatching the phone, the thief ran off over the pedestrian bridge towards Norham Road.

The offender is described as possibly being a teenager, 5ft 10in tall and of slim build.

He was wearing dark clothing.

The woman is said by police to have been left shocked but otherwise unharmed.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the theft, carried out at 8.20pm on Tuesday, to come forward.

Potential witnesses in Marmion Terrace or nearby at the time – or anyone offered a Blackberry Bold for sale in suspicious circumstances since then – is asked to call police on 101 ext 69191 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
