A woman was sexually assaulted by a man on a bike.

Police are appealing for information to the incident which happened at 1pm on Wednesday, April 20, in Wallsend.

A 44-year-old woman was walking in Ropery Lane, Howdon, when she was approached by a man who was riding a mountain bike.

He touched the woman inappropriately on the behind before riding off towards Willington Quay.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and anyone with information to help is asked to contact police.

Wallsend Neighbourhood Inspector, Mark Storey, said: “Enquiries into the assault are ongoing and we ask anyone who may have information to help to contact police.

“While this may seem like a low level assault the women was left distressed by the incident and we take this very seriously.

“We ask anyone who may have information to help to contact police on 101.”

Extra officers are carrying out patrols in the area and anyone with any concerns should speak with local officers.
