She’ll be the second South Tyneside star to share the stage with Antony, after Joe McElderry starred alongside him in The Who’s Tommy at Blackpool Opera House last year.

The show is from the creators of Dreamboats and Petticoats and is made up of the biggest songs from the 1960s, including Sweets for my Sweet, Please Mr Postman, Viva Las Vegas, Can’t Get Used to Losing You and the title track Save the Last Dance For Me..

Lola will star as Jennifer, alongside Antony as Milton. The musical follows two teenage sisters through the summer of 1963 as they embark, for the first time without their parents, on a holiday to the seaside.

Full of freedom and high spirits they meet a handsome young American who invites them to a dance at the local US Air Force base. But young love and holiday romance is never as simple as it sounds, and the sisters soon realise that while the world around them is still watching itself in black and white, life and love can be much more colourful.

The show kicked off its run at the Theatre Royal Windsor on April 6.

Save The Last Dance For Me is on at the Empire until Saturday. Book tickets online or call the ticket centre on 0844 871 3022.
