A Killingworth woman is preparing to take part in her biggest challenge so far.
Xena Marshall will be pounding the streets of London tomorrow (Sunday) as she joins 39,000 other people taking part in the 35th London Marathon.
She has taken part in six months of training over the winder to prepare for the 26.2-mile course.
Xena, a Slimming World consultant and team manager at Sage, said: “I wanted a challenge for my 40th birthday, and to raise money for a fab cause too.
“I’ve run a couple of Great North Runs now, so my first ever marathon seemed like the logical next step.”
Xena’s friend and ex-colleague Donna lost her 18-year-old son Harry to an undiagnosed heart condition two years ago, so she is running to raise awareness and money for Cardiac Risk in the Young.
She has already raised almost £2,000 in sponsorship, which will help to raise awareness of cardiac risk and the 12 young people who die every week.
Xena said: “CRY really supported my friend when she needed them, so I wanted to give something back and run in memory of Harry.
“I’ve had great support throughout my training from my family, and my running club and am looking forward to the challenge ahead this weekend.”
