Yes, you can go to the ball
Tickets have gone on sale to a special after show '˜party'.
Organisers of this year’s Whitley Bay Carnival include a Carnival Ball to celebrate the end of the 2016 event and raise money for next year’s show.
Only 300 tickets have been made available, with anyone interested advised to get in quick before the tickets sell out.
The family friendly circus themed ball will take place in a marquee next to the Spanish City Plaza and will feature a host of acrobatic performers and musicians as well as some of the artists involved in the carnival parade.
People of all ages are invited down and given the opportunity to reinvent themselves for the evening with free reign over a giant carnival inspired fancy dress box with artists on hand to help.
There will be street food and a bar on the site.
Carnival producer Carol Alevroyianni said: “Like the very best wedding parties the community ball will be a time for all generations to dress up and let their hair down with friends, family, neighbours and complete strangers.
“But if dressing up and dancing is not your thing, the ball will be a great social event and you are welcome to come along to spectate and soak up the atmosphere or enjoy some of the delicious food and drink.”
She added: “The last two carnival days have been so popular and people have simply not wanted the day to end.
“So the ball gives us the perfect opportunity to extend the celebrations well in to the evening in a covered venue suitable for people of all ages.
“Additionally, the ball forms part of our future carnival planning; whilst the support from Whitley Bay Big Local has been pivotal in bringing the carnival back to life we recognise that we need to look at ways of making the carnival self-sustainable and are now putting the right foundations in place to ensure it remains an annual event for the whole community to enjoy.
“The ball will form one of a number of different fundraising events throughout the year to help us to meet some of the costs of hosting such a spectacular occasion.”
Jess Burns, chair of Whitley Bay Big Local, added: “The community ball is just the icing on the cake to what looks set to be an amazing day.
“Little did we know when we enlisted Carol and the team to help bring back the carnival, that within three short years it would become such a huge celebration for the town and would touch so many people of all ages and backgrounds.”
Tickets for the ball are £6 per person, available from Enterprise Car Hire in Shiremoor, Pantrini’s, Di Meos Ices and from The Whitley Bay Big Local Shop on Park View. Tickets will be available at the shop every Friday and Saturday from 10am to noon or every Wednesday and Thursday from 6pm to 7.30pm.
