Youngsters hit the target with James Bond style celebration
Charity volunteers were on a mission to celebrate at a James Bond-themed get-together.
Almost 100 trustees and committee members of charities and community groups were invited to the BIG Celebration, organised by 30 young volunteers from North Tyneside.
The event, at the Linskill Centre in North Shields, was funded by the Big Lottery Celebrate programme and supported by staff from the Voluntary Organisations Development Agency (VODA).
Guests were treated to a three-course meal, planned and cooked by the young volunteers, entertainment from local singer Molly Glover and a raffle.
Trustees also answered questions about their roles, and the youngsters screened two short films they had made about trusteeship.
The organisers were all graduates of the National Citizen Service scheme for 16 and 17-year-olds.
VODA chief officer Lisa Goodwin said: “We’ve found that a large number of our NCS graduates want to continue volunteering, but that there aren’t many opportunities out there for this age group.
“The Celebrate event has given them the chance to get involved in community action again, and they’ve absolutely excelled themselves.
“They took on the challenge of planning an event for 100 people with real enthusiasm.”
