Young footballers from North Tyneside will have the chance to play at a world class stadium in May when they represent Newcastle United.

Pupils from Redesdale Primary School and John Spence Community High School will be representing the club at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium.

They will be taking part in the Premier League Schools Tournament having both won their respective regional finals at Newcastle United’s first team training centre earlier this month.

The prestigious national event will see 20 teams compete on the hallowed turf of the former Premier League champions and current Capital One Cup holders on Tuesday, May 20.

Organisers said it is a once in a lifetime opportunity and experience for the children involved.

Redesdale Primary School in Wallsend were the under-11s mixed tournament winners, beating Newcastle School for Boys in the final.

The match had ended 1-1 but Redesdale won on penalties.

John Spence Community High School were victorious in the under-13s girls competition, beating Whickham School in Gateshead 3-1 on penalties.

In total 64 primary schools and 512 pupils from across the north east took part in the regional qualifiers in the under-11’s category and 24 schools and 192 girls took part in their tournament.
