Elections are a fundamental part of our democracy and the opportunity for parties and candidates to advertise their political messages is both lawful and central to this process.
Advertisements have taken many forms, from bill boards to leaflets. As this election was called at short notice these normal advertisement channels were not always available and newspapers all over the country have accepted advertisement requests from all lawful parties, subject to them being labelled an advertisement feature, availability within the newspaper and the content meeting legal and ethical requirements.
This is not ‘grubby money’, and it is helping to fund our independent journalism throughout the year.
