ON behalf of our elected club president, Alan Storey, and the members of Whitley Bay Rotary Club, we would like to thank so many people for donating to our collection boxes these last few months.
In early December the club, operating from Morrisons supermarket, raised and donated £585.74 for the North East Macmillan Cancer Support Group.
This was rounded up to £600 from our club finances.
Following this, our club was involved for two days with the Whitley Bay St Nicholas Fair.
Firstly on Friday the children’s lantern parade, and in spite of the weather over the weekend, we managed to collect exactly £350 on the following market day.
The next collection at Sainsbury’s supermarket in Newsteads Drive raised a further £235.08, donated from the shoppers, and during the Christmas festivities we had our annual Christmas tree collection in the Whitley Bay town centre.
Here we raised a further £350 bringing our collections for the month of December up to £1,535.08.
In addition to this, we must thank Park View shopping mall for allowing ‘Santa Claus’ to visit the mall on five separate occasions.
This and the ‘wishing well’, which was part of their indoor Christmas display, raised a further £400.
This money will now be specifically donated to the North East Children’s Rainbow Trust, which will help to support the families of children who are terminally ill or who are having extended periods of ‘operational time’ in hospital.
In early January we were delighted to receive two further donations from St Mary’s Church and Valley Gardens School.
Between them they donated £902, which will go towards the cost of two more Rotary shelter boxes.
Finally, we would like to thank once again the people of St Mary’s Church, Valley Gardens School, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Park View shopping mall and the council staff from the St Nicholas Fair for making our collection days possible
Together and on their behalf, we have been able to collect, spend and support good causes and charities to the value of £2,437.08, all of whom depend so much on your generosity in these times of need.
We are always looking to help charities and people in the area and if you feel this could be your organisation please do not hesitate to contact me on 07523 969823.
