THE people of St Paul’s Church in Park View, Whitley Bay, are appealing for support in fundraising efforts to repair the Grade II listed church.
Leaflets have been hand delivered this week by the congregation to homes in the parish to see if a ‘Friends’ group can be formed to help with planning and ongoing maintenance.
You may have a personal or local connection with the church, have been baptised or married there, or your family have, and wish to join or find out more.
This week fundraising continues with a stall in the Park View shopping centre on Saturday.
Sales of home-made knits for children, good quality paperbacks and quality photographs during the morning together with cakes, Mothering Sunday goodies and a tombola stall in the afternoon.
The team will be there from 9am until 4pm and will also have photographs of the major repairs to do in church.
During the morning the hall users who carry out activities in the parish centre are holding a 10th anniversary charity coffee morning starting at 10am in the church hall.
This is to explain what happens in the parish centre as it has been open for ten years, week in and week out whilst at the same time raising funds for charities during Lent.
People who have never been into the centre or know what happens there will be made very welcome.
We feel it is important to preserve our heritage for the good of the townscape and the people of Whitley Bay and our visitors.
We believe that the building is the oldest in Whitley Bay and we want to keep it for future generations.
We are so very grateful to those who have supported our coffee mornings every week and those who have given so generously with their donations.
There will be two further coffee mornings on April 9 and 16.
If you can help us in any way please do get in touch, we would love to see or speak with you.
