A Wallsend business owner and Northumbria University graduate will take part in the Junior Men’s Physique national finals.

Alex Esgate, 22, a personal trainer, physique competitor and co-owner of Pioneer Performance gym in Frank Street, was placed second in the UK Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation’s (UKBFF) north qualifiers and has been invited to attend the national finals in October.

He said: “Although I’ve trained for years and trained others as a personal trainer, this was the first time I’d entered a competition.

“I am absolutely thrilled to have placed second in the regional competition and received an invite to the national finals later this year – it makes all the hard work worth it.

“It just shows that you can do anything you put your mind to. Thank you to everyone for their support in the run-up to competition.”

The UKBFF British Championships take place on October 3 and 4 at the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham.

Originally from Leeds, he graduated in Sports Exercise and Nutrition at Northumbria in 2014 and opened Pioneer Performance with his friend Matthew Walker in February of this year.

Pioneer Performance is a personal training company aimed at providing current, science-based interventions to optimise body composition, performance and health.

It offers personal training, group sessions and nutritional advice and programmes for anyone wanting to change their body and lifestyle for good.
