All Northumberland affair for Tyneside Amateur League Challenge Shield final
The Tyneside Amateur Challenge Shield semi-finals were down for decision on Saturday, and the final will be an all-Northumbrian affair between Morpeth Town Seniors and Cramlington Town Reserves.
Morpeth conceded home advantage to North Shields Athletic Reserves in order to get the match played, and were rewarded with a 2-0 victory with Nick O’Neill and Michael Bray their goalscorers.
Cramlington had done the double over Forest Hall YPC in the league, both by a 4-1 scoreline, but the semi-final was much tighter. Goals from Brent Aisbitt and Martin Humble took Cramlington into the final, although Forest Hall skipper Craig Harley netted in reply.
In the league, Monkseaton FC A picked up a second consecutive victory as they beat Gosforth Bohemian Reserves 5-1, although the match was much tighter than the scoreline suggested. Monkseaton took the lead after 11 minutes as Anthony Tunmore headed home a corner. Pete Hall deservedly levelled matters for Bohs shortly after half-time, but a volley from Matthew Slater quickly restored Monkseaton’s lead. Daniel Robson made it 3-1 with seven minutes remaining, before two goals in stoppage time from Keith Smith and Adam Binks added gloss to the scoreline.
Heaton Stannington B made it five wins in six matches with a thrilling 4-3 success over Wardley. Jamie Anderson bagged a brace for Wardley with Aladin Adaa and David Jones ensuring all three points for the Stan, despite counters from Carl Clarke and Leon Kane (2).
West Jesmond moved up to third in the table, just two points off the top, with a high-scoring win over Newbiggin Hall Vettic. Dan Williams scored for Vettic, but Ed Shanks (7), Kester Young (6), Marc Cowley (3), Stu Davidson (3), Mark Emmerson (2), Tayo Dina, Gareth Smith and Gary Wilkinson were all on target for West Jesmond.
The league are on the lookout for new management committee members for next season, particularly anyone looking to take on the role of league secretary. Anyone interested should contact Neville Cowey at firstname.lastname@example.org
