NORTH Shields Athletic climbed up to tenth after an encouraging 2-1 win over Bedlington Terriers Reserves.
The home side went ahead after eight minutes when Matty Donkin scored for the third game in a row, giving him seven for the season so far.
Bedlington equalised soon after when Shields failed to clear the ball from inside their box.
Both teams were giving it a go in an end to end first half but neither side could add another goal before half-time.
The second half started with Shields pushing Bedlington back as fine play on both wings gave the forwards chances, but it was captain and midfield player Gary Farrage who scored the deciding goal when his left foot shot swung the tide in Shields’ favour.
Shields hung on for three valuable points after their defence stopped conceding scrappy goals, from goalkeeper Callum Hayes through to Dan Walton, who had an outstanding game after spending the last few games on the bench.
North Shields Athletic play Bedlington Terriers Reserves again on Saturday, this time away in the Amateur Cup.
