Northern Alliance premier division side Percy Main Amateurs will host their annual presentation evening at the adjacent Percy Main Cricket Club this Saturday from 7pm.
England’s opening Euro Championship group game against Russia will be on in the bar and the awards will be presented around the live screening of the match.
The club have ultimately enjoyed a relatively successful first season back in the league’s top tier, with an eighth place finish and a Bill Gardner Cup final appearance, which went the way of North West Counties league bound Carlisle City.
Voting has been heavy in all of the categories, with all awards, expected to be close run affairs.
Up for grabs is the Norman Rodgerson Supporters’ Player of the Year award, in memory of Main’s former committee member and loyal supporter who sadly died in November 2014.
It was won for the first time last season by Dwayne Murray.
As Murray has since left for Grainger Park BC, there will be a new name on the impressive shield this season.
Votes have also been cast for the Players’ Player. Young Player and Overall Player of the Year, while the management team will have had a hard choice deciding in the category of the Manager’s Player award.
In a break from tradition, the Clubman of the Year, so often won by those behind the scenes for their sterling work on behalf of Percy Main AFC, has been retired as it was fittingly won posthumously by Norman Rodgerson at the end of the 2014-15 season and the committee felt that it was appropriate that the award should stay forever in his name.
The clubman shield is now given pride of place and is displayed within the Purvis Park pavilion.
It is hoped that club president Ronnie Robinson, who first played for Percy Main some 67 years ago and is still a regular at home games, will be well enough to attend to present the trophies.
All supporters are more than welcome to attend, there will be competitions and a raffle on the night.
