Away draw for Whitley Bay in Senior Cup

Whitley Bay will travel north to take on Alnwick Town in the second round of the Northumberland Senior Cup.

The draw, which took place on Saturday, pairs Whitley with the side that created a surprise in the first round by knocking out West Allotment Celtic on their own ground.

After a good start to the season, Alnwick have slipped down the Northern League second division in recent weeks, but their chairman Tom McKie, while recognising that his side will be the underdogs, described the tie as ‘winnable’.

This will be the first time the clubs have met in the competition since 2006 when Whitley won an action packed first round tie 5-3 at Hillheads.

The full draw is: North Shields v Newcastle United Reserves; Bedlington Terriers v Blyth Spartans; Alnwick Town v Whitley Bay and Ashington v Newcastle Benfield.

Matches to be played on or before November 23.
