TyneMet College hosted near neighbours and rivals Gateshead College in the ECFA League and came out on top 2-1.

Both teams were trying to come to terms with the conditions and get the ball down on the floor and play neat football in the opening period.

It was the hosts that were the first to test the goalkeeper but Mikel Thompson’s curling shot on ten minutes was well saved.

Five minutes later both teams had chances within a minute of each other; a Michael Baxter shot was again well saved and with Gateshead going straight down the pitch but Callum Starker was equal to it in the home goal.

The visitors took the lead on 42 minutes when a good through ball saw Reece Noble fire low into the bottom corner.

TyneMet made an almost instant response when a poor kick from the Gateshead keeper fell straight to Baxter who dribbled past the last defender and fired left footed low past the despairing dive of the Gateshead keeper.

TyneMet took the lead with 57 minutes played when a good run by John Ackroyd saw him play in Baxter who again fired low left footed into the net.

The home side had further chances to extend their lead with substitute Shane Jones, Antonio Manco and Baxter both having shots well saved by the Gateshead keeper.
