Bay begin bid for FA Cup glory with a visit from Bishops

WHITLEY Bay FC are one of more than 400 teams that will set off on the road to Wembley this weekend in the Extra Preliminary Round of the 2011-12 FA Cup.

A good run in the famous competition brings major financial rewards and the Seahorses will be hoping to make progress on Saturday when they take on Bishop Auckland at Hillheads.

The sides met one stage later in the competition last season and it was Whitley who came out on top 3-1 in a replay at Hillheads after a 2-2 draw in County Durham.

Apart from goalkeeper Kyle Hayes, who will be unavailable, Bay manager Ian Chandler should have a full strength squad to choose from.

The reward for the winners will be a home tie against either Tow Law Town or Marske United in the next round.

Should the game end in a draw, the replay will be at Bishop Auckland on Tuesday evening.

Whitley Bay are scheduled to play Ashington at home in a league game on Tuesday but this would be postponed if either side is involved in a cup replay.

Ashington play second division Ryton & Crawcrook in the FA Cup on Saturday.
