Newly promoted Crook Town provide the opposition for Whitley Bay on Saturday when Ian Chandler’s side will be playing their third away game in a week.
After a 13-year absence from the top flight, Crook won the second division championship last season, and in contrast to Whitley Bay they have made a good start to the new season.
On their last visit to Millfield in April 2001, Whitley ran out comfortable 4-1 winners, but Crook can be expected to provide a much tougher challenge this time.
Among their squad is former Bay midfielder Richard Hodgson, an FA Vase winner in 2010.
Whitley should have a stronger squad than in recent games, with a number of players returning from holidays and others recovering from injury.
Following a hectic opening to the season, Whitley will probably be grateful for a free midweek as they prepare for a rearranged fixture on Saturday, August 31, away to Billingham Town.
