Big-spenders sure to be a tough test

After a run of four away games, Whitley Bay return to Hillheads on Saturday for what will be a tough encounter when they take on big-spending Shildon.

The Railwaymen, who finished in third place last season, are enjoying another successful campaign and reached the final qualifying round of the FA Cup, the best performance by a Northern League side in this year’s competition.

One of their recent signings is former Bay goalkeeper Kyle Hayes, who joined from Spennymoor in September. Another familiar face in their side is midfielder Lee Paul Scroggins who spent two seasons at Hillheads.

Good news for Whitley is that Chris Reid is available again after completing his suspension.

Next Tuesday evening, Whitley welcome Alnwick Town to Hillheads in the Second Round of the Northumberland Senior Cup. Kick-off 7.30pm.

l There are still a few seats remaining on the Whitley Bay Supporters Club coach to the FA Vase Second Round tie at Congleton on Saturday, November 22. A 53-seater executive coach will be leaving Hillheads at 9.30am, returning straight after the game. Contact Doug Parker on 07761 976892. £15 for Supporters Club members and £18 non-members.
