North Shields Football Club have confirmed dates of four pre-season friendlies with more in the pipeline.
First up at the Daren Persson Stadium at Ralph Gardner Park are Blyth Spartans on Saturday, July 6 then it’s the short trip to Newcastle Benfield on Wednesday, July 24.
Durham City visit Tyneside on Saturday, July 27 with Wearside League outfit Prudhoe the opponents on Wednesday, July 31.
Saturday matches kick off at 3pm, starts for midweek games are to be confirmed.
The Northern League campaign kicks off on Saturday, August 10 when Jarrow Roofing, who finished fourth last season and at one point were anticipating promotion, cross the Tyne with Cumbrians Whitehaven travelling on Wednesday, August 14.
There’s an intriguing draw in the first round of next season’s Northern League Cup looming with North Shields having home advantage over FA Vase semi finalists Shildon.
This will be the first meeting between the sides since the 1988-9 term when they came together three times, with the Robins the victors on each occasion.
Shields finished in the table one place below Shildon but triumphed 5-1 at Dean Street then 3-1 at home in league encounters and fascinatingly the teams also clashed in the Joshua Tetley Northern League Cup.
The Shieldsmen, on their home soil, took the field without injured stalwart Wilf Keilty and ex-Newcastle man Paul Ferris, but, under the guidance of boss Jim Pearson, edged through by 2-1.
A majestic 20 yarder from centre half Mick Bailey put the Robins ahead then Keith Mills made it 2-0 from the penalty spot before Phil Shute pulled one back for the visitors.
The North Shields team that day was: Simon Hopkins, Tony Burgess, Brian Rawlinson, Martin Hamilton, Mick Bailey, Paul Pitman, Steve Golightly, Barrie Wardrobe, Don Peattie, Keith Mills, Martin Henderson with sub Ronan Liddane.
The Robins went on to win 3-2 at Chester-le-Street before bowing out at Billingham Synthonia in the third round 1-0.
North Shields are delighted to announce the continued sponsorship of the club by Daren Persson and Chirton Social Club.
Daren, a North Shields lad, said: “I’m proud to help, a long term partnership is vital,” whilst Chirton Club is the place to be for Robins supporters pre and post match.
