Chandler makes Whitley Bay manager's role permanent
Three months after returning in a temporary capacity, Ian Chandler was confirmed as permanent Whitley Bay manager after Saturday's victory over his former club Durham City.
Speaking after the announcement, he told the club’s website that he was delighted to be staying and is already planning for next season.
Looking back on the three months since he returned to Hillheads on a temporary basis, he said: “I’m happy to be back and pleased with the way things have gone.
“We’ve made steady progress, though to be honest there have been far too many games.
“Playing just about every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday has been ridiculous.
“It would have been so much better if a few more games had been played earlier in the season, but the weather’s not helped.
“It would have been good if we could have picked up a few more points earlier on as well, but it wasn’t to be.
“But we’re safe and we’re on 50 points now, which isn’t too bad after where we were.”
Looking to the future, he added: “We’ve just retained Callum Anderson for two more years on contract, and that’s good.
“Adam Shanks and Chris McDonald will be staying and we’re discussing contracts with several other players as well.
“We’ll try and keep the nucleus of this year’s side and add two or three more, not many.
“If we can do that we’ll be fine. We’ve shown this season that on our day we can beat anyone, like we did against Dunston and North Shields.
“If we can just get the games spread out a bit more and perform as well as I know we can, then we’ll be OK.
“We need to entertain people. If we don’t they’ll be asking for their money back!”
