Changes allow Hartlepool to come from behind and draw

PERCY Main got their pre-season programme under way Saturday on Teesside.

And it ended with what manager Gareth Allen called “a fair result” against former Northern League boss Wilf Constantine’s new look Hartlepool FC as the Main played their part in an entertaining 2-2 draw.

With a host of new signings on display, the Main bossed the first half with Tony Abladey, Kevin Westphall and Chris Doig tormenting the home defence at will, and it was Dean Ellis, who linked up with David Surrey in the visitors midfield to supply Manu for the visitors opener.

Ellis himself fired home a left footed rocket just after the interval, but as Allen rotated his large squad, making six second half substitutions which included the entire back four, the home side came back into the game and deservedly squared the game with a couple of well taken second half goals.

This Saturday Percy Main will host Wearside League outfit Redcar Athletic at Purvis Park in another pre-season encounter which will kick-off at 2.30pm.

Other friendly matches arranged are Newton Aycliffe (away) Wednesday, July 25, Bedlington Terriers Reserves (home) Saturday, July 28, Newcastle Chemfica (home) Tuesday, July 31, while the tenth annual Gary Hull Memorial Trophy will see the Main take on near neighbours North Shields on Saturday, August 4, kick off 2pm.
