Cullercoats were knocked out of the Northern Alliance League Cup by fellow first division side Felling Magpies on Saturday.
Following a tight first half, which ended goalless, it was Cullercoats who made the breakthrough on 49 minutes when midfielder Chris Connor dribbled past two home defenders before being brought down in the box. He then dispatched the penalty kick to make it 1-0.
Felling levelled on the hour when a left wing cross and shot was judged to have crossed the line before being cleared.
The home side took the lead three minutes from time as the game became stretched.
Cullercoats immediately piled on the pressure in search of the equaliser. Their best chance came from a free kick on the right which was headed against the bar and the game ended 2-1 to the home side.
Cullercoats travel to Longbenton in league action on Wednesday, April 13, kick-off 6.15pm.
