Cullercoats FC U21s beat West Allotment Celtic U21s in the qualifying round of the League Cup.
The game got off to a flying start and inside three minutes midfielder Martin Cobley played in Jake Greener on the left side of the box and he fired past the on-rushing Allotment keeper to open the scoring.
Cobley played another through ball to Stephen Moat on 15 minutes but his shot narrowly cleared the crossbar as Cullercoats continued to make the early running.
Left back Ryan Nelson then delivered a corner on 20 mins which was volleyed back to him by Kallum Percy and the second delivery was finished off with a right foot shot by defender Elliot Mitchell to make it 2-0.
West Allotment continued to compete and pulled a goal back on 28 minutes following an excellent team move.
But Cullercoats continued to press and Cobley set up Percy whose low drive narrowly missed the left post.
Greener then found Percy with an excellent through ball, but the resultant shot was blocked by the home keeper before Dan Tweddle dispatched a thunderous left foot drive which also narrowly went wide.
The second half continued in the same vein with both teams creating opportunities.
Moat went close on 53 minutes when his lob over the on-rushing home keeper narrowly missing the top left corner of the goal.
Percy created the decisive breakthrough on 65 minutes when his right wing cross was headed home by Matthew Stephenson to make it 3-1.
Moat continued to unlock the home defence and on 83 minutes he found Greener with an excellent through ball which was finished off in style.
A late break down the left by Christopher Barnfather resulted in an excellent ball to find Stephenson on the edge of the six-yard area, but his shot cleared the upright and it finished 4-1.
The game was played in good spirit and a youthful West Allotment never stopped competing throughout in what is their first season at this level.
Stephen Moat was awarded man of the match for his excellent display in the centre of the pitch, but Cobley and Percy also made superb contributions in what was a solid team performance.
Cullercoats U21s return to league action next Sunday with an away game at Seaton Burn.
