Jake Greener opened the scoring for Cullercoats on 23 minutes when Hylton Hub played a ball into Callum Ross, who crossed from the left for the striker to score.

Blyth fought back in the second half and levelled with a well taken finish. The away team then created several opportunities before deservedly taking the lead on 75 minutes.

Cullercoats rallied and struck the bar before Hub made a strong run into the left side of the box and drove an excellent left foot finish into the far corner of the net to level the game 2-2 on 89 minutes.

Elliot Mitchell then struck the bar with a header direct from a Hub corner in injury time, but it remained 2-2.

Neither team managed to get the winning goal in extra time, so penalties were required.

Cullercoats came out on top 4-2 after converted spot kicks from Greener, Ross, Hub and Dan Tweddle.

Replacement keeper David Cooper made two fine saves to win it, although it was hard on Blyth who were the best team in normal time.

Cullercoats’ next game is away to Ellington on Sunday, May 8.
