Junior football is full of highs and lows, but on Saturday Cullercoats U13s gave their coaches and parents a proud moment.
They turned up at Wallsend Community with only eight players and were still determined to play.
The flowing and passing football that followed was a joy see. It was of such high quality, coupled with the right attitude, desire, commitment and work rate on a day when they were a credit to themselves, as well as the club.
Cullercoats controlled the game from the start and went in 1-0 up at the break with a strike from the effervescent Michael Barnes.
The lead could have been more, but they were twice denied by the crossbar.
The second half was more of the same with Barnes getting his second, followed by a brace for Kai Hay and a goal apiece for captain Samuel Warren and Leighton Alexander, giving the eight players a tremendous 6-1 win at the final whistle, with Wallsend grabbing a consolation goal.
There was no ‘man of the match’ award, as all eight players were superb throughout.
