A youthful Cullercoats XI hosted the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers in an annual friendly match as part of their 2015 centenary celebrations at Links Avenue on Sunday.
In front of a decent crowd both teams were piped out by the Fusiliers pipes and drums section.
The game was played in great spirit and provided excellent entertainment throughout.
Both defences were dominant in the first half and the game remained 0-0 at the break.
The second half continued to be entertaining and well fought with the defences holding fast until the last kick of the game when a route one move by the Fusiliers resulted in the match-winning strike from a long ball flick on.
Both teams retreated to Cullercoats Crescent Club for food and further entertainment by the pipes and drums section.
The Fusiliers team were continuing their football schedule this coming week with friendly games against Forest Hall FC and Cramlington Town FC.
All the staff and players at Cullercoats FC wished the Fusiliers all the best for their forthcoming training exercise prior to operational deployment in Helmand Province in Afghanistan.
