Defeat for Burradon ends cup interest

STANDARD Security Blyth and Wansbeck Sunday League’s last team involved in the County Cup were knocked out.

Burradon and New Fordley went down 2-1 away against Blakelaw Social Club, Paul Willery their scorer.

The second semi-final took place in the Eric Anderson Cup with Bedlington Community up against Ashington Grand.

In an even contest, both sides failed to take the many chances they created with Grand’s David Jones only goal deciding the game.

In the JD Marnock quarter final, second division Ashington White House defeated first division Rockcliffe Arms 3-2.

In a very entertaining game goals for the White House came from John Appleby (2) and Liam Grisdale. Scoring for the Rockcliffe was Paolo Black and Craig Smith.

In the other quarter-final of the competition between High Street and Blagdon Arms, the match appeared to be heading for extra time when High Street scored with only seconds remaining to win 5-4.

In the premier division, Ashington RAOB beat the Eagle 4-1.

Blyth Masons continued their recent upturn in form with a 4-2 home win against North Shields Gunner. Scoring for the Masons was Steven Elsey (3) and Kevin Long.

On target for the Gunner were Aaron Langlands and Andrew Robinson.

New Hartley had a good 2-0 win at home against Ashington Grand Street thanks to goals from Ryan Collier and Sean Storrey.

The shock of the day came in division two as The Newsham won their first points of the season thanks to a 4-0 win at home against North Shields Catholic Club.

The scoring heroes for Newsham were Paul Neilsen and Daniel Wills who both scored two.

Ashington Fox Cover went down 3-1 at home to West Allotment.

Steven Clark scored for the Cover. Goals for the Allotment came from Steven Udberg, Andrew Peacock and Scott Purcell.
