Whitley Bay return to the scene of their best performance of last season when they travel to Gateshead to face Dunston UTS on Saturday.
On a fine April evening, Whitley stunned the home side with a comprehensive 5-0 victory, a performance that helped erase the memory of the FA Vase defeat by Dunston at Hillheads earlier in the season.
This weekend, Whitley will face a Dunston side who are once again among the front runners in the league, handily placed in sixth position and with games in hand on four of the sides above them.
Among their recruits in the summer was former Whitley captain and Vase hero David Coulson, happily recovered from the knee injury that had threatened his career.
With five wins in their last six games, Dunston will be a tough nut for Leon Ryan’s side to crack and there will be no room for the defensive mistakes that made last Saturday’s Vase encounter against South Shields such a close affair.
Next Tuesday’s scheduled game against Newcastle Benfield at Hillheads has been postponed due to the visitors’ cup commitments, leaving Whitley with a free week ahead of their next game at home to Morpeth Town.
