North Shields’ winning run came to an end when they were beaten 2-0 by Guisborough Town in cold conditions on Saturday.

The hosts took the lead early in the first half through Mark Robinson from the penalty spot after the referee adjudged a Shields’ defender had held his man in the box.

They then doubled their lead midway through the second period when Mason McNeill curled in an effort from distance.

Despite their efforts Robins were unable to break through ba stubborn Guisborough defence and they left empty handed.

* North Shields have signed 21 year-old defender Mark McManus after his contract was cancelled at Gateshead FC.

They have also landed Josh Nearney, another defender, who joins from Whitby Town.
