Willington Quay Saints grabbed their first league win since August with a superb performance that gives new hope that they can beat the drop in the Northern Alliance division one relegation battle.
The first 20 minutes were even but when Bedlington Terriers Reserves’ left back headed into his own net from a corner, gifting the home side the opener, Saints began to dominate.
They doubled their lead before half-time when Glen Johnson coolly slotted home a penalty after Noel Clynch was fouled by the Bedlington keeper.
With 20 minutes remaining, Dale Johnson met Ryan Ferrier’s perfect cross with a bullet header to secure the three points.
And in the dying minutes Glen Johnson grabbed his second with a brilliant free kick into the corner his fifth goal in seven games since a long injury lay-off.
