TyneMet College played their first fixture after the holiday break and enjoyed an 8-1 win over Bishop Burton College.
TyneMet should have taken an early lead but Phil Watson missed a glorious chance. But just a few minutes later he made amends, firing past the visiting keeper after latching onto a Jack Pinchen pass.
The hosts made it 2-0 on 35 minutes when full back Paul Dunn got his first goal of the season after a fine solo run past three defenders.
And they made it three with the goal of the game just before half time. Shane Jones seized on the loose ball and his shot found the top right hand corner of the goal from 30 yards.
Bishop Burton did come out after the interval and take the game to the home side and got a reward for their hard work when a well worked corner saw them claw a goal back.
TyneMet were in no mood to let this spoil their day as another Jones goal extended their advantage. Skipper Lewis Scorgie then made it five when he headed home Pinchen’s cross.
With 20 minutes left on the clock Jones completed his hat-trick after a sublime cross from Kane White.
Further goals followed when substitute Juste Akani was left to finish with his first touch of the game after a defence splitting pass by Mikel Thompson.
Five minutes from time the visitors’ misery was compounded when a Pinchen deflected shot ended up in the back of the net.
