Juniors have three reasons for a celebration

NORTH Shields Juniors had three reasons to celebrate last weekend.

The club was celebrating its 15th season in existence, the presenting of the Northumberland FA Community Club of the Year award and honoured players for their season.

Friday night saw the under-7s through to under-11s presented with their representative awards and individual achievement trophies.

The presentation was attended by Sean and Matty Longstaff and Owen Bailey – all now with Newcastle United Academy having started off with North Shields Juniors.

The awards were presented by former juniors starlet Liam Mooney, who will be rubbing shoulders with the likes of Nobby Solano next season at Hartlepool United, and Jason Miller, the North Shields Juniors and Newcastle United goalkeeper development coach.

Saturday night saw the under-12s through to the under-18s along with the senior side North Shields Athletic celebrating their achievements.

Another Newcastle United signing, Louis Storey, was welcomed back to help present the awards as more than 1,000 players, parents and supporters enjoyed the two evenings.

Further celebrations will go on when the girls’ section have their presentation evening on June 17 at North Shields Catholic Club.

The juniors are planning for next season too.

As well as starting a development centre for under six and seven-years-old with Newcastle United at the Parks Leisure Centre, the trials for all age groups are planned for the next two weeks at John Spence Community High School.
