Cullercoats FC U14 Girls extended their unbeaten run to seven games when they made the short trip to Coast Soccer on Saturday for a top of the table clash.
The girls were buoyant following a tremendous win against Cramlington United the previous week to teach the League Cup final.
Cullercoats started all guns blazing and opened the scoring within two minutes when Beth Waterson was sent clean through and made no mistake to make it 1-0.
Coast responded well and levelled when Sarah Clews fired home.
The home kept their foot on the peddle and went 2-1 up on 14 minutes when Cullercoats keeper Libby Hall pulled off a great save but Megan Crass was first to react to the rebound.
The game ebbed and flowed with both teams threatening, but great play down the right side by Cullercoats’ Mia Wallace set up Beth Waterson who thumped home her second to make it 2-2.
Cullercoats then went 3-2 in front with a goal from a corner.
Coast Soccer struck back immediately when Jess Smith fired the home team level again to make the half-time score 3-3.
A mouth-watering second half followed with both teams going for the win.
Chances at both ends came and went, but ten minutes from time Waterson, in a carbon copy of her first goal, was sent clean through and she unleashed an unstoppable thunderbolt to secure her hat-trick and put Cullercoats back in front.
Coast Soccer pressed but Cullercoats held on for the 4-3 win.
Player of the match went to Cullercoats goalkeeper Hall, who was tremendous throughout.
