New season starts with a win for TyneMet

TYNEMET College kicked off their new season in the ECFA Premier League following their promotion last season.

They opened with a home game against the side who finished third last season, Leeds City College.

The hosts kicked off in blustery conditions and took the lead with only seconds on the clock.

A through ball by Dan Young released Andrew Johnston behind the defence and he rolled the ball goalwards where John Wears made sure it crossed the line.

TyneMet were on top and almost doubled their lead on 28 minutes but Young missed the target.

The visitors, with the wind behind them, equalised a few minutes later following a defensive error.

Leeds took the lead shortly afterwards when Singh got his second after being left unmarked in the area.

The hosts almost went into half-time level but John Grey’s header from a Wears corner hit the post.

TyneMet equaliseed ten minutes into the second half when keeper Michael Bertram launched the ball upfield, Johnston and the visiting keeper challenged for the ball but neither got a touch, with the ball rolling into the back of the net – Bertram the scorer.

It was all TyneMet in the second half, and 12 minutes from time Young cut into the box and pulled the ball back for Adam Cole to score the winner from eight yards out.
