Cullercoats Under-15s produced a sensational second half comeback from 3-1 down to remain top of the Pinpoint Recruitment League after a feisty battle with local rivals Tynemouth.
The visitors got off to a great start when Marcus Holmes cut inside from the right on five minutes and his cross was turned in for the opening goal by Alex Mutch.
Tynemouth dominated the rest of the first period and only Aidan Mcdonald in the Cullercoats goal stood in the way of a Tynemouth comeback with a number of fine saves.
But the home side’s pressure eventually paid off when Callum Young struck a fine equaliser on 25 minutes.
It was all Tynemouth now as Andrew Tallon fired them ahead following a corner before Kieron Anderson danced his way through the Cullercoats defence to make it 3-1 at the break.
Both teams came out for the second half in determined mood and this resulted in several hefty challenges before Ben Morris pulled a goal back with a fine strike for Cullercoats.
With just 15 minutes left on the clock Cullercoats were looking the stronger team physically and Aaron Dixon forced home the equaliser after a great bursting forward run.
A similar run forward from David Barber just two minutes later resulted in another Dixon goal when he smashed in a shot off the underside of the bar as Cullercoats took the lead.
With the Tynemouth defence looking weary, Mutch took advantage with two late goals to make sure the points went to Cullercoats.
The two games between the sides this season have resulted in a total of 21 goals and proved to be an excellent advert for junior football.
