The midweek Techflow Group Northumberland Senior Cup quarter-finals involving Whitley Bay and North Shields have fallen victim of the weather.

Whitley Bay were due to host Ebac Northern League leaders Morpeth Town at Hillheads tonight, but the game was called off early Tuesday following two days of persistent rain.

It is the second time the fixture has been postponed.

The tie was originally scheduled to be played last Tuesday but was put back a week due to Morpeth’s cup commitments following a postponement of their FA Vase tie.

It is yet another in a series of postponements that have dogged Whitley in recent weeks, adding further to an already lengthy backlog of fixtures which leaves them having played seven league games fewer than some of their rivals.

A new date for the Senior Cup tie has yet to be decided.

North Shields, who were due to entertain Ashington at Daren Persson Stadium on Wednesday evening, also called their game off on Tuesday.

The fixture has been rescheduled for Wednesday, December 16.

The two sides met recently in the FA Vase where the holders, the Robins, comfortably advanced with a 3-0 win over Steve Harmison’s Colliers.
