Bedlington Juniors and West Jesmond met in the first Semi Final of the Tyneside Amateur Challenge Shield, in what always promised to be a tight affair.
It proved to be the case, with neither side managing to make the breakthrough within the regulation 90 minutes.
However, Andy McLennan and Andrew Armstrong struck in extra time to see Karl Porter’s Bedlington side into the final.
North Shields Athletic Reserves returned to winning ways with a 4-1 win in a hastily arranged league game against Newcastle Chemfica Reserves when both teams’ scheduled matches fell by the wayside. Mark Davison, Matty Thompson, Daniel Haggerston and Leeroy Odd notched for Shields, with Osas Samson on target for Fica.
Gosforth Bohemian Reserves moved up to fourth in the table with a 3-2 win in a tough encounter at Wardley. Louis Lawson, Jon Paul Bradley and Karim Benfaied netted for Bohs, whilst Carl Clarke and Bradley Nicholson’s strikes for Wardley kept them sweating to the end.
Stobswood Welfare made it six games unbeaten as a four-goal salvo from Jacob Baker helped them to a 5-0 success over Newbiggin Hall, David Brown netting their other goal.
Ponteland United Reserves returned to winning ways as they beat Forest Hall YPC 2-1 and moved to within two points of their opponents. Daniel Troughton and Gary Oliver’s goals won the day for Pont, despite a goal from Michael Sutcliffe.
Lindisfarne Custom Planet Reserves won their third consecutive match as they beat Newcastle Medicals 3-1 despite a goal from Liam Walton. Chris Conway, Josh Foulkes and Kirk Floyd won the day for Lindisfarne.
The league are on the lookout for potential new clubs for the 2016-17 season, as well as potential new management committee members including anyone interested in being league secretary.
