FA Vase victors North Shields have bolstered their already talented squad with three new acquisitions.
Midfielder Gary Ormston joins from Dunston UTS having been a regular with nthe nGateshead outfit club last season, netting five times.
Another ex-Dunston and Whitley Bay player – and Vase winner – joining the Robins is central defender David Coulson, has signed for Graham Fenton’s squad alongside Jack Walker, who last season represented Consett.
Shields assistant boss Andy Bowman said he was delighted with the club’s new acquisitions.
“We have identified what we needed and all three are not only great players but also influential in the dressing room and good characters off the field,” he said.
“Gary is an experienced lad yet still at his peak who operates with style in the middle of the park to complement the way we play and add goals to our tally.
“David is a natural leader who will undoubtedly add strength to our squad and he obviously knows all about lifting trophies.
“Jack is a young quality defender who we tried to sign when he was at Darlington.
“He subsequently moved on to Bedlington then Consett, but we’re delighted he’s now with us and certainly adds competition for places at the back.”
Whilst the majority of the 2014-15 squad have or are re-signing, one notable departure is Wembley hero Kieran Wrightson.
He said he has left with a heavy heart and that it was the toughest decision of his life.
Signed from Bedlington in November 2012, the hard-working midfielder is revered for his stunning strikes – the match-winner over Shildon in a League Cup tie, a special strike against Newcastle United XI in the Senior Cup, and his side’s fourth at Whitley Bay last season, which was voted the Robins’ goal of the season.
Wrightson is set for a new challenge at Jarrow Roofing but said the memories of that road to and triumph at Wembley will never be forgotten.
Shields line-up for their first outing of the pre-season at Berwick Rangers on Saturday, July 4, kick-off 3pm.
