In their final and only home friendly outing of pre-season, FA Vase holders North Shields rattled in four goals against Northallerton Town.
Denver Morris James Luccock and Gary Day all got on the scoresheet with quality strikes as Graham Fenton’s lads prepared for the new campaign.
Robins assistant boss Andy Bowman enthused after the final whistle.
“Due to the Wembley final and all that went with it, the players haven’t had much of a break.
“The friendlies have all been competitive although performances have been bitty.
“On Saturday, though, it all came together and we looked so much more positive and ruthless.
“The wide lads were excellent and we’re all just waiting for that golden goal touch to return to number nine Gareth Bainbridge - he had an assist in all four goals, though.
“We looked fit and hungry but with a really hard start to the season we need to be firing in training.”
With the injured Dean Holmes and keeper Sean McCafferty sidelined, the Shieldsmen will also have to reckon without the unavailable Marc Lancaster and the suspended Curtis Coppen for the opening of the Northern League season away to Guisborough Town.
Their first game of ther season at the Daren Persson Stadium is on Wednesday, August 12, when newly promoted Seaham Red Star are the visitors for a 7.30pm kick-off.
Then on Saturday, August 15, it is a trip to the Yorkshire coast as Bridlingfon Town host the Shieldsmen in FA Cup action.
On Saturday, the Robins will choose from: Chris Bannon, Stuart Donnison, John Grey, Jack Walker, Kevin Hughes, John Parker, David Coulson, Michael McKeown, Adam Forster, Ben Richardson, Gary Ormston, Ryan Carr, James Luccock, Denver Morris, Gareth Bainbridge, Gary Day.
