Only two game beat weather in Tyneside Amateur League

TWO games in division two of the Tyneside Amateur League managed to beat the latest blast of cold and wet weather.

Chopwell extended their lead at the top to nine points, although they were made to work for the points at Newcastle Medicals, eventually winning by the odd goal in seven.

Rowland Lee, Kevin Regan, Thomas Ridley and Derek Waters were on target for the leaders, while Ross Brown, Mark Tobin and Jonathan Wood scored for Medicals.

Chopwell face Kenton Bar Community, the only team to take any points off them thus far, next weekend.

In the other league game, a brace from Kristian Gilbert was enough to see Newcastle East End past North Shields Town and send their opponents to the foot of the table.

Wayne Wood scored a consolation for Town.

In the Northumberland Minor Cup, FoWS Diggers fell victim to Hexham by a 7-2 scoreline, with their strikes courtesy of Matty Hayton and Chris Maddocks.
