Robins squad sees five new additions and four move on

NORTH Shields have added a number of new acqusitions to their squad for the forthcoming 2012-13 campaign.

The Robins, who topped the second division attendances chart last time round, see a welcome return to the club for defenders Joe Elliott and Jonathan Hall after spells at Hebburn and West Allotment Celtic respectively.

Both men have turned out more than 40 times for the Robins and were regulars in the side that just missed out on promotion in the 2010-11 season.

The Shields management duo of Graham Fenton and Andy Bowman have also brought in, so far, central defenders Adam Laidlaw ex-Blyth and Gateshead, Philip Robinson, a right sided midfielder from Brandon United and Jonny Hook, a 19-year-old versatile player from Monkseaton Academy.

Going in the opposite direction are Mark Rasmussen and James Luccock who have both joined Hebburn, John Grey who has defected to Newcastle Benfield and Danny Bowlt, who is embarking upon a college course in the United States.

The Shieldsmen’s first friendly outing of the pre-season will be at the Coach Lane ground in Benton next weekend.

The Robins will take on Team Northumbria, last season’s Northern League second division champions on Saturday, July 14, with a 3pm kick-off.

Next up is a meeting with neighbours Whitley Bay at the Daren Persson Stadium at Ralph Gardner Park on the rearranged date of Wednesday, July 18 at 7pm.

North Shields have won the last two pre-season clashes between the sides by the same 2-1 scoreline.

Then it is a trip over the border to visit East of Scotland League outfit Gala Fairydean, on Saturday, July 21, kick-off at the Netherdale Ground in Galashiels will be 2pm.

Last season, on Tyneside, the club’s played out a 1-1 draw.

North Shields host Heaton Stannington of the Northern Alliance on Wednesday, July 25 (7.30pm) and Northern League division one side Ashington on Wednesday, August 1 (7pm).

Then on Saturday, August 4, it is the Gary Hull Memorial Trophy annual fixture between Percy Main and North Shields (2pm).
